DOWN GOLF CLUB
Royal County Down is located in one of the world’s most naturally beautiful settings in the Murlough Nature Reserve. The magnificent backdrop of the Mountains of Mourne, the links stretches along the shores of Dundrum Bay, providing a different vista from virtually every hole. It was recently ranked as the #1 Course outside of the USA by Golf Digest.
The Mourne Mountains are the highest mountain range in Northern Ireland. The mountains themselves are unrivalled by a network of paths and tracks, providing enthusiastic walkers with incredible opportunities for exploration. Any newcomer to the Mournes will be simply amazed at the variety of landscapes that can be encountered within such a confined geographical area.
A five minute drive from Cherryhill Lodge, Murlough National Nature Reserve is a fragile 6000 year old sand dune system owned by the National Trust and managed as Ireland’s first Nature Reserve since 1967. It is an excellent area for walking and bird watching due to its spectacular location at the edge of Dundrum Bay and the Mourne Mountains.
Tollymore Forest Park
Covering an area of almost 630 hectares at the foot of the Mourne mountains, Tollymore Forest Park has panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the sea at Newcastle. It’s open to the public all year.
