The majesty of the Mourne Mountains can be felt as soon as they come into view. We here at the Cherryhill Lodge are lucky enough to have these beautiful mountains on our doorstep, with its sweeping range of grand peaks, this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty certainly lives up to this title.
The Mourne Coastal Route gives you some sense of the sheet size of these mountains, Northern Irelands Highest, but we find the best way to see the sights is by foot or bike. If you are a cyclist, give the Mourne Mountains Cycle Loop a go, or if you prefer hiking, the variety of terrain on the Mournes will keep even the keenest hiker happy. With an array of peaks and trails, you will be left in awe of the epic scenery, that this vast mountain range has to offer.
On your hike, you will come across the famous Mourne walls, criss-crossing the landscape, stretching over 15 peaks of the mountains. If you are an experienced hiker, you might just be interested in the Mourne wall challenge. This challenge follows the historic stone wall for 31km.
During your trails of the Mournes, you might think you are in a fantasy land, you are not wrong for thinking this, for these mountains where the inspiration for CS Lewis the Chronicles of Narnia, as well as filming locations for Game of Thrones, The Northman, Dracula Untold and many more.
