The Royal County Down Golf Club which opened March 23rd, 1889, is one of Irelands oldest golf clubs, however, it is also the most challenging, with the swaths of heather and gorse lined fairways beneath vast sand dune, wild grassy faced bunkers guarding subtly contoured greened, it also boasts two 18-hole links courses, the Championship Course and the Annesley Links. Situated only a short drive from Cherryhill Lodge, this course should be ranked highly on the must play for any golfer.
Located in one of the worlds most naturally beautiful settings in the Murlough Nature Reserve, fringed by the stunning backdrop of the Mountains of Mourne which sweep down to the sea. The links stretch the along the shores of the Dundrum Bay, zigzagging back and forth to provide a different vista from virtually every hole.
Ranked number one in the Worlds Greatest Golf Courses, Golf Digest in 2017, 2018 & 2019. It has also hosted the Irish Opens four times, with the last one taking place in 2015. The Championship course has also hosted a lot of prestigious golfing event, both national and international. It is also a personal favourite course of Rory McIlroy, he is after all one of the greatest golfers in the world.
